Install & Use

Installing And Using The Extension

How the popup and side panel work, permissions, updates, multiple browsers and what to do when the extension does not load.

The DMpro extension opens as a side panel next to Instagram or TikTok, and this article tours everything on it: the header, the account menu, the mode toggle and its pages.

1. Opening DMpro

On an Instagram or TikTok page, click the DMpro icon in the Chrome toolbar. The DMpro side panel opens on the right and stays open while you move from profile to profile. If Chrome cannot open the side panel, DMpro shows the same panel inside the page instead.

On any other website, the icon opens a small window with Instagram and TikTok buttons to take you there.

2. The Header

  • Credits. Your remaining credits, shown when you are signed in (large numbers are shortened, for example 1.2K; point at it for the exact number). Click it to see upgrade options.
  • Sign In. Shown when you are signed out.
  • Your initials. Opens the account menu.

3. The Account Menu

At the top: “Connected as” with your email and a status line (for example “Signed in”). Then:

  • Open Dashboard
  • Campaigns
  • Find Creators (when available on your account)
  • Prompts and Messages
  • Automation settings
  • AI Assist (MCP) (opens the dashboard page)
  • Upgrade Plan
  • Sign Out

Open Dashboard, AI Assist (MCP) and Sign Out show while you are signed in.

4. The Mode Toggle

Under the header, choose Single Profile to prospect one profile at a time, or Bulk Campaign to run a whole list in the background.

5. Single Profile Screen

  • The chip showing what DMpro sends: Active prompt or Your own DM, with its name.
  • The profile DMpro read, with a Refresh button.
  • Generate (or Fill in for your own DM) and Prompt (or My DM), which opens Prompts and Messages.
  • The message box, Copy To Clipboard and the Auto Send DMs switch.
  • An email field with Send Email (filled in when DMpro finds an address).
  • The video tutorial.

6. Bulk Campaign Screen

The active campaign (progress, Sent, Failed, Skipped, the countdown to the next DM, Pause and Stop), the New Campaign form and your Recent Campaigns.

7. Prompts And Messages Page

Your AI prompts and own DMs, with the AI Prompt and Your Own DM tabs, the Template Library and the message mode buttons. See “AI Prompt Or Your Own DM: How To Switch The Message Mode”.

8. Automation Settings Page

Smart Message Update, Auto Send DM, Auto Email, Safety Mode and Sending Limits & Delays. See “Using The Automation Settings Page In The Extension”.

9. Signing In

Signing in uses your email and a 6-digit code; there is no password. The extension and the dashboard share the same account and settings.

Related questions:

If the DMpro extension doesn’t open when you click the toolbar icon, or the side panel is blank, run through these steps in order.

1. Check That The Extension Is Enabled

Type chrome://extensions in your address bar. Find DMpro in the list. Confirm the toggle on the bottom right of the DMpro card is on (blue).

If the toggle is off, click it to enable. If DMpro isn’t in the list at all, reinstall from the Chrome Web Store.

2. Reload The Extension

On the same chrome://extensions page, click the small circular reload icon on the DMpro card. This restarts the extension. Now click the toolbar icon again.

3. Restart Your Browser

Close every Chrome window (Cmd+Q on Mac, or right-click the Chrome icon and Quit). Reopen Chrome. Try the extension again.

4. Check You Are On A Supported Page

DMpro’s content script only runs on Instagram and TikTok profile pages. If you are on:

  • The Instagram or TikTok home feed: The extension may show a “Go to a profile” message. Browse to any user’s profile page.
  • A logged-out view: Sign in to Instagram or TikTok first. DMpro uses your existing session.
  • A different site entirely: DMpro only supports Instagram and TikTok. Google, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc., are not supported.

5. Sign In If You Have Been Signed Out

Your DMpro session lasts 30 days. If it has expired, the extension shows a Sign In screen. Sign in with your email and the 6-digit code.

6. Update The Extension

Chrome auto-updates extensions, but if auto-update has been paused:

  1. Go to chrome://extensions.
  2. Toggle Developer mode on (top right of that page).
  3. Click Update at the top left.

Wait a moment for the update to complete. Reload the profile page you were on. Try DMpro again.

7. Check For Conflicting Extensions

Some extensions interfere with content scripts, especially ad blockers, script blockers, or “privacy” extensions. Try:

  • Disabling other extensions one at a time.
  • Testing DMpro after each disable to see which extension conflicts.

Common culprits include uBlock Origin (with strict filter lists), Ghostery, and some privacy VPN browser extensions.

8. Try In Incognito Mode

Open an incognito window. If DMpro is allowed in incognito (you can enable it under chrome://extensions → DMpro → Details), try loading Instagram. If it works in incognito but not normal mode, the issue is a conflicting extension in your normal profile.

9. Reinstall The Extension

As a last resort:

  1. Go to chrome://extensions.
  2. Click Remove on the DMpro card.
  3. Reinstall from the Chrome Web Store.
  4. Sign in again with your email and code.

Your prompts and settings are stored on the server, so they come back automatically after reinstalling and signing in.

10. Contact Support

If none of the above works, email [email protected] or use the Chatgram widget in the dashboard. Include:

  • Your DMpro account email
  • Your Chrome version (from chrome://settings/help)
  • Your operating system
  • A screenshot of the chrome://extensions page showing DMpro

We usually respond within one business day.

Related questions:

Chrome auto-updates DMpro in the background, usually within 24 hours of a new release. Here is how to force an update, check your version, and know when a new release is available.

1. Check Your Current Version

Type chrome://extensions in your address bar. Find DMpro in the list. The version number is shown under the extension name, e.g., “1.9.1”.

2. How Auto-Update Works

Chrome checks for extension updates every few hours by default. When a new DMpro version is published to the Chrome Web Store:

  • Chrome downloads the update automatically.
  • The update is applied the next time you restart your browser (or immediately if the extension is idle).
  • No action is needed on your part.

3. Force An Update Immediately

If you need the latest version right now:

  1. Go to chrome://extensions.
  2. Toggle Developer mode on (top right of the page).
  3. Click Update in the top left.

Chrome checks all installed extensions for updates and installs any it finds. This takes about 10 seconds.

4. See What’s New

DMpro publishes release notes in-app. Look for the blue “What’s New” banner at the top of your dashboard after an update. The full changelog is available at dmpro.brandid.app/changelog.

5. When A Feature Requires Sign-Out

Occasionally a major update requires you to sign out and back in for the new features to appear. If you see a “Please sign in again” notice after an update, it is not a bug; just click the notice, sign in with your email + code, and the new features become available.

6. Version Compatibility With The Server

The extension and the DMpro server release together. If you disable auto-update for a long time, the extension may show a “Please update” notice because a required server API has changed. In that case, follow step 3 to force an update.

7. Beta Program

DMpro does not currently have a public beta channel. All users are on the stable Chrome Web Store release.

Related questions:

When you install DMpro, Chrome asks you to approve several permissions. Here is exactly what each one does and why DMpro needs it.

1. Storage

What it does: Saves your settings, prompts, and session token locally in Chrome’s extension storage.

Why DMpro needs it: So your prompts and preferences stick between browser sessions. Without this permission, you would need to sign in and re-select your prompt every time you restart Chrome.

What DMpro stores locally: Your JWT session token, your currently-selected prompt name, and UI preferences like whether the side panel is open. Nothing sensitive like passwords is ever stored.

2. Scripting

What it does: Allows DMpro to inject its content script into Instagram and TikTok pages.

Why DMpro needs it: So the extension can read the profile information you are looking at (bio, follower count, username) and send DMs. Without this, DMpro could not read profiles or send DMs.

Scope: The script only runs on instagram.com and tiktok.com. Not on any other site.

3. webRequest

What it does: Lets DMpro spot a broken Instagram link.

Why DMpro needs it: So DMpro can send you back to the right profile instead of an error page.

4. Tabs And activeTab

What it does: Lets DMpro know which tab is currently active so it can act only on the profile you’re looking at.

Why DMpro needs it: So the extension doesn’t accidentally send a message on a tab you’re not looking at, and so the side panel refreshes when you switch tabs.

5. Side Panel

What it does: Allows the persistent side panel on the right side of your browser.

Why DMpro needs it: The side panel is DMpro’s main interface. Without this permission, it could not open next to the page.

6. Alarms

What it does: Lets DMpro schedule small background tasks.

Why DMpro needs it: For campaigns that send at intervals with delays between messages, and for an hourly check of which Instagram or TikTok account you are signed in to.

7. Cookies

What it does: Lets DMpro read cookies from Instagram and TikTok.

Why DMpro needs it: So the extension knows you are logged in to Instagram or TikTok, and so it can send DMs through your existing session. DMpro never sends these cookies to our servers. They stay in your browser.

8. Host Permissions

DMpro requests access to specific hosts:

  • https://*.instagram.com/*: to read profiles and send DMs.
  • https://*.tiktok.com/*: same, for TikTok.
  • https://invite-extension.dmpro.app/*: the DMpro server.
  • https://*.stripe.com/*: for payment processing.
  • https://chatgram-server.brandid.app/*: for the support chat widget.

Nothing else. DMpro cannot read data from other websites.

9. What DMpro Does Not Have Access To

  • Your Instagram or TikTok password. DMpro never sees it.
  • Your DMs on other conversations. The extension only sends messages you initiate.
  • Any other website’s data. DMpro cannot read your bank, email, or any non-social site.
  • Your browsing history. The extension only knows about profile pages you deliberately visit while it’s active.
Warning: Be cautious of “DMpro-like” extensions from other publishers on the Chrome Web Store. The official DMpro is published by the brandID team. Always verify the publisher name before installing.

Related questions:

Yes. You can install DMpro on any number of Chromium-based browsers. Each install is a separate session but they all share the same account. Here is what to know.

1. Which Browsers Are Supported

DMpro works on any Chromium-based browser that supports Chrome Web Store extensions:

  • Google Chrome (fully supported).
  • Brave (fully supported; may need to enable Chrome Web Store).
  • Microsoft Edge (fully supported).
  • Opera (works with the “Install Chrome Extensions” add-on).
  • Arc (works if it supports Chrome extensions).
  • Vivaldi (fully supported).

Not supported: Safari, Firefox. Both use different extension architectures.

2. Sign In Separately On Each Browser

Each browser is treated as its own session. Install DMpro on the browser, then sign in with your email and the 6-digit code. Your account, prompts, credits, and settings all sync automatically because they live on the server.

3. When To Use Multiple Browsers

Some users install DMpro on multiple browsers because:

  • Separate personal and work profiles. One browser is signed in to their personal Instagram, another to their business Instagram.
  • Team separation. Different team members using different browsers on a shared workstation.
  • Testing and QA. Trying a prompt on a fresh browser to see how it appears.

4. Rate Limits Apply Per Account, Not Per Browser

Your generation quota is per account. Sending from browser A does not reset the quota; it draws from the same pool. If you have 500 credits this month, they are shared across every browser signed in.

5. Sessions Are Independent

Signing out of DMpro on browser A does not sign you out of browser B. Each browser has its own session token. This is the same as how any other web login works across browsers.

6. Fingerprint Blocking Still Applies

DMpro’s fingerprint blocking policy considers the Instagram/TikTok account you send from, not the browser. If you have DMpro on Browser A with Instagram account X and Browser B with Instagram account Y, both work fine.

If you try to use two different DMpro accounts (different emails) but both signed in to the same Instagram account, the fingerprint policy will block the second one. See “Multi-Account Fingerprint Detected Error”.

Tip: For teams sharing a DMpro account, use the enterprise plan which allows multiple connected social accounts. See “Managing Your Connected Social Accounts”.

Related questions:

The extension includes a built-in video walkthrough that shows how to send your first DM. Here is how to find and watch it.

1. Inside The Extension

Open the DMpro extension. Look for the How To Use Extension section (usually a collapsible panel or a button labeled Play Video). Clicking it opens the tutorial video in a new tab on YouTube.

2. Why YouTube, Not An In-App Player

Chrome extensions have strict Content Security Policy rules. Embedding YouTube video players inside an extension isn’t reliable. Opening the video in a new tab is the safest way to give you a smooth playback experience with full YouTube controls.

3. What’s Covered In The Video

The tutorial covers:

  • Installing and pinning the extension.
  • Signing in.
  • Editing your default prompt.
  • Sending your first personalized DM on Instagram.
  • Sending on TikTok (differences).
  • Enabling side panel mode.
  • Turning on Auto-Send DM.

Total length: about 4 minutes.

4. Watch The Video Any Time

The tutorial is available at any time from the extension. You can also watch it directly on the DMpro YouTube channel by searching for “DMpro tutorial”.

5. Written Docs If You Prefer Reading

Every topic covered in the video also has a written article in this Knowledge Base. See the Getting Started and Sending DMs On Instagram And TikTok categories for full step-by-step guides.

Related questions:

If DMpro shows a “Go to a supported profile” message even when you are on an Instagram or TikTok page, here is how to fix it.

1. Confirm You Are On A Profile Page

DMpro is designed for user profile pages, not for the feed or explore pages. Supported URLs look like:

  • instagram.com/username
  • tiktok.com/@username

The extension does not activate on:

  • The home feed.
  • Explore or discover pages.
  • Reels or video pages by themselves.
  • The direct messages inbox.
  • Notifications.

Navigate to a specific creator or business profile and try again.

2. Check You Are Logged In

DMpro reads your existing browser session to send DMs. If you are not logged in to Instagram or TikTok in the same browser, the extension cannot send anything. Sign in to Instagram or TikTok first.

3. Refresh The Page

Sometimes the content script fails to inject on the first page load, especially if you navigated between pages very quickly. Press Cmd+R (Mac) or Ctrl+R (Windows) to hard reload the profile page. The extension should activate.

4. Check Extension Permissions

Open chrome://extensions, click Details on the DMpro card, and confirm:

  • Site access is set to “On all sites” or specifically includes instagram.com and tiktok.com.
  • Allow in Incognito is enabled if you are browsing in incognito.

5. Check For Blocked Content Scripts

Some ad blockers or privacy extensions specifically block content scripts on Instagram or TikTok. Common culprits: uBlock Origin with strict lists, Ghostery, DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials.

Try:

  1. Disable your ad blocker temporarily.
  2. Refresh the profile page.
  3. Check if DMpro activates.

If yes, the ad blocker is the issue. Add an exception for the DMpro extension in your ad blocker’s settings, or whitelist Instagram and TikTok in the blocker.

6. Try Incognito Mode

Open an Incognito window (Cmd+Shift+N or Ctrl+Shift+N). Make sure DMpro is allowed in incognito (from chrome://extensions → DMpro → Details). Log in to Instagram or TikTok. If DMpro works in incognito but not in your normal browser, an extension in your normal profile is conflicting.

7. Update Chrome

Sometimes older Chrome versions have bugs with content scripts. Update Chrome:

  1. Go to chrome://settings/help.
  2. Chrome shows “Chrome is up to date” or automatically checks and installs updates.
  3. Restart Chrome after any update.

8. Instagram And TikTok Redesigns

Instagram and TikTok redesign their pages occasionally. If DMpro suddenly stops working after a page redesign, our team usually pushes an update within 24-48 hours. Check the Chrome Web Store for a version update or contact support.

9. Contact Support

If nothing works, email [email protected] with:

  • Which platform (Instagram or TikTok)
  • The exact URL you were on
  • Your Chrome version
  • A screenshot of the extension showing the error

Related questions:

Your DMpro account can be associated with one or more Instagram and TikTok accounts, depending on your plan tier. Here is how to manage them.

1. What A Connected Social Account Is

A “connected social account” in DMpro means: an Instagram or TikTok handle that this DMpro account is authorized to send from. DMpro doesn’t ask for your IG/TikTok password; instead, whichever account you are logged in to in your browser is the one DMpro uses.

The connection is recorded so DMpro can:

  • Show usage stats per social account.
  • Enforce the fingerprinting policy (one social account per DMpro plan tier).
  • Route the correct AI prompt if you use different tones on different accounts.

2. Connected Accounts By Plan

  • Free tier: 1 Instagram + 1 TikTok = up to 2 social accounts total.
  • Starter, Growth: 1 Instagram + 1 TikTok = up to 2 social accounts.
  • Professional: Up to 3 connected social accounts (any mix of IG and TikTok).
  • Enterprise: Up to 10 connected social accounts (any mix).

3. How To Add A Social Account

You don’t manually “add” a social account in DMpro. Instead:

  1. Sign in to the Instagram or TikTok account in your browser (any browser where DMpro is installed).
  2. Open Instagram or TikTok in a tab.
  3. Open the DMpro extension.
  4. DMpro detects the logged-in handle and adds it to your connected accounts list automatically.

The next time you go to your dashboard’s Profile page, you see the newly-connected handle.

4. How To Remove A Social Account

Go to Dashboard → Profile → Connected Social Accounts. Click the trash icon next to the account you want to remove.

Removing a connection does not delete anything on Instagram or TikTok. It only removes the association from DMpro. If you sign in to the same account again in a browser with DMpro, the connection is re-created.

5. Switching Between Connected Accounts

DMpro automatically works with whichever Instagram or TikTok account is currently logged in in your browser. To switch:

  1. Sign out of Instagram or TikTok in that browser (or use a different browser profile).
  2. Sign in to a different Instagram or TikTok account.
  3. Open the DMpro extension. It detects the new account.

The prompt, credit count, and settings all stay tied to your DMpro account. Only the sending identity changes.

6. Fingerprint Blocking Reminder

Signing in to the same Instagram or TikTok account under two different DMpro emails triggers the fingerprint block. See “Multi-Account Fingerprint Detected Error” for how the block works.

The rule is: one social account belongs to one DMpro account. Sharing across DMpro accounts is not supported.

7. Team Accounts On Enterprise

On Enterprise, up to 10 people on one team can share a DMpro account and send from up to 10 connected social accounts. Contact [email protected] for team setup.

Tip: If you outgrow your plan’s connected-account limit, upgrade to Professional or Enterprise instead of creating multiple DMpro accounts. Multiple accounts are penalized by the fingerprint policy.
