Sending

Sending DMs On Instagram And TikTok

Send your first DM, choose Auto-Send or copy and paste, extract emails from bios and understand rate limits and failures.

Sending your first DM takes about a minute once the extension is installed, and this article walks through the single-profile flow from opening a profile to the DM going out.

1. Sign In To Instagram Or TikTok

Open Chrome and sign in to Instagram or TikTok as you normally do. DMpro sends from the account that is signed in there; it never asks for your Instagram or TikTok password.

2. Open A Profile And The Side Panel

Go to the profile of the person you want to message (instagram.com/username or tiktok.com/@username), then click the DMpro icon in the Chrome toolbar. The DMpro side panel opens next to the page. Sign in to DMpro with your email and the 6-digit code if you have not yet.

3. Choose Single Profile

At the top of the panel, make sure Single Profile is selected (the other choice, Bulk Campaign, runs a whole list).

4. Check What DMpro Will Send

The chip under the toggle shows how the DM is written:

  • Active prompt with the prompt’s name: DMpro’s AI writes a new message for this person (1 credit per message written).
  • Your own DM with the DM’s name: DMpro fills in the own DM you wrote (free to fill in, 1 credit per DM sent).

To change it, open Prompts and Messages from the account menu. See “AI Prompt Or Your Own DM: How To Switch The Message Mode”.

5. Make Sure The Right Profile Is Loaded

The panel shows the profile it read. If you moved to another profile, click the Refresh button next to the profile first. DMpro refuses to write a message while the panel still shows someone else (“Tap Refresh to load @name first, so the message is written for the right person”).

6. Click Generate Or Fill In

  • In AI Prompt mode, click Generate. The AI writes the message in a few seconds.
  • In Your Own DM mode, the button reads Fill in. DMpro fills in your own DM for this person instantly.

7. The DM Goes Out (Or Waits For You)

  • Auto Send DMs on (the default): DMpro sends the message as a DM right away and shows “Auto-DM sent successfully to @username!”.
  • Auto Send DMs off: the message stays in the box. Edit it if you like, click Copy To Clipboard, open the person’s DMs and paste it yourself.

The Auto Send DMs switch is on the main screen of the panel, and also in Automation settings. See “Auto-Send DM Explained”.

8. Credits

  • AI Prompt: 1 credit for every message the AI writes, sent or not.
  • Your Own DM: 1 credit for every DM DMpro sends. If the DM fails, the credit is given back.

9. Move To The Next Profile

Open the next profile, click Refresh, then Generate (or Fill in). If Smart Message Update is on Automatic and a message is already in the box, Refresh writes the next message by itself, and with Auto Send DMs on it sends it too. See “Smart Message Updates: What They Do”.

10. Messages You Might See

  • “Already messaged”: you DMed this person before. Choose Skip or Generate & send again.
  • “DM already sent to @username – Duplicate messages prevented!”: DMpro did not send a second DM.
  • “Not sent: this message was written for @name…”: the tab now shows a different profile. Go back, or click Refresh.
  • “Auto-DM failed: Please switch to an Instagram or TikTok tab to send direct messages”: the active tab is not Instagram or TikTok.
  • Out of credits: DMpro opens the upgrade options. See “”Not Enough Credits” Error”.

Related questions:

Auto Send DM makes DMpro send each single-profile message as soon as it is written or filled in, and this article explains how it works and where to turn it off.

1. What Auto Send DM Does

With Auto Send DM on, DMpro sends the message as a DM to the profile open in your tab, without another click:

  • after you click Generate (AI Prompt mode),
  • after you click Fill in (Your Own DM mode),
  • after Smart Message Update rewrites the message when you click Refresh on a new profile.

With it off, the message stays in the box for you to edit and copy. There is no separate send button in single-profile mode.

2. It Is On By Default

New accounts start with Auto Send DM on.

3. Where To Turn It On Or Off

  • Extension, main screen: the Auto Send DMs switch under the message.
  • Extension: account menu, Automation settings, Auto Send DM.
  • Dashboard: Automation, Auto-Send DM.

The setting is saved to your DMpro account, so all three show the same value.

4. Checks Before Every Send

  • DMpro sends only to the profile the message was written for. If the tab shows someone else, it stops with “Not sent: this message was written for @name…”.
  • If you already DMed that person, DMpro asks first (“Already messaged”) or stops the duplicate (“DM already sent to @username – Duplicate messages prevented!”).
  • The tab must be an Instagram or TikTok page.

5. Safety Mode And Limits Do Not Apply Here

Safety Mode, the daily limit and the delays are campaign settings. Single-profile DMs go out when you act, so pace yourself. See “Safety Mode: What It Does And Why Use It”.

6. Campaigns Have Their Own Switch

Each campaign has its own Auto-send DMs checkbox in the campaign form. The single-profile switch does not affect campaigns.

7. Auto Email Works Only With Sends DMpro Makes

If Auto Email is on, DMpro emails the same message only for DMs it sends for you. When you copy and paste a DM yourself, no email goes out. See “What Is Auto Email And How Do You Turn It On?”.

8. There Is No Undo

A DM that went out cannot be taken back by DMpro.

Warning: With Auto Send DM on, every Generate, Fill in, and Smart Message Update rewrite goes out immediately. Turn it off while you are still testing a prompt or an own DM.

Related questions:

DMpro can send each single-profile DM for you or leave it for you to paste, and this article compares the two ways.

1. Auto-Send (Default)

With Auto Send DMs on, DMpro opens the conversation in your tab, types the message and sends it.

Good for:

  • High volume once your prompt or own DM is tested.
  • Auto Email, which only works for DMs DMpro sends.

2. Manual Copy-Paste

With Auto Send DMs off:

  1. Click Generate (or Fill in).
  2. Read the message in the box and edit it if you like.
  3. Click Copy To Clipboard.
  4. Open the person’s DMs on Instagram or TikTok, paste and send.

Good for:

  • Reading every message while you are still refining a prompt.
  • Places DMpro does not send from, such as story replies or a video’s message button.

3. Switching Between Them

Use the Auto Send DMs switch on the main screen of the extension, or Auto Send DM in Automation settings (extension) or Auto-Send DM on the dashboard’s Automation page.

4. What Each Costs

  • AI Prompt mode: the credit is used when the AI writes the message, so it costs 1 credit either way.
  • Your Own DM mode: filling in and copying are free. Only DMs that DMpro sends use a credit, so a DM you paste yourself costs nothing.

5. What You Give Up In Manual Mode

  • No Auto Email for that message.
  • No duplicate check at send time, and DMpro does not record the DM. It still warns you before writing for someone it already sent a single-profile DM to (campaign DMs are not part of this check).

6. A Good Routine

Keep Auto Send DMs off for your first 10 to 20 DMs while you check the wording, then turn it on.

Related questions:

When a profile’s bio shows an email address, DMpro picks it up so you can email the person too, and this article explains what you can do with it.

1. What DMpro Picks Up

When DMpro reads a profile, it looks for email addresses: in the bio on TikTok, and anywhere on the page on Instagram, so check the address before you click Send Email. If it finds one, the email field under the message shows it. When there are several, a small menu lets you pick one, and you can also type an address yourself. Auto Email only uses an address written in the bio.

2. Send Email (Manual)

Click Send Email to email the message in the box to that address. This works on every plan and does not use a credit, but your account needs at least 1 credit left. The email:

  • comes from “Your Name via DMpro”, and replies go to your own email address,
  • has a footer with your name and email (and your business address if you saved one) and an unsubscribe link.

3. Auto Email (Automatic)

On the Growth, Professional and Enterprise plans, Auto Email can send the same message by email for you, with every DM or only when the DM fails. It only uses an address the bio shows. See “What Is Auto Email And How Do You Turn It On?”.

4. Email Limits

Every outreach email counts toward your plan’s limits:

  • Free, Starter and Growth: 60 emails an hour and 300 a day.
  • Professional and Enterprise: 200 an hour and 2,000 a day (shown as unlimited, fair use).

A message can be up to 10,000 characters.

5. People Who Unsubscribed

Someone who clicked the unsubscribe link never gets outreach email through DMpro again, from anyone. Auto Email tells you “Not emailed: this person unsubscribed from DMpro emails.”; Send Email shows “Failed to send email: Server responded with status: 409”.

6. Manual Emails And Auto Email

A manual email also counts for Auto Email’s repeat rule: DMpro does not email the same person automatically within 30 days of an email you sent them.

7. Is This Legal?

An email posted in a public bio is public, but marketing email is regulated (CAN-SPAM in the US, CASL in Canada, GDPR in the EU and others). DMpro adds the footer and unsubscribe link these laws expect; you are still responsible for emailing only people who would reasonably want to hear from you.

Related questions:

DMpro reads the public details of the profiles you message to write and fill in your DMs, and this article lists exactly what it reads and keeps.

1. What DMpro Reads From A Profile

When you open a profile (or a campaign reaches one), DMpro reads:

  • Display name. The name shown at the top of the profile.
  • Username. The @handle.
  • Bio text.
  • Follower count and following count.
  • Post count on Instagram. On TikTok, DMpro reads the likes count in its place.
  • Profile picture, to show it in the panel.
  • Email addresses: for Send Email, any address in the bio (TikTok) or on the page (Instagram); Auto Email uses only an address in the bio.

2. What DMpro Does Not Read

  • Private posts, stories or post captions.
  • Your DM history or anyone else’s messages.
  • Follower or following lists.

3. How These Details Are Used

  • AI Prompt: the details fill in your variables ($firstName, $bio, $followers and others) before the AI writes. See “Using Variables Like $firstName And $bio”.
  • Your Own DM: they fill in {{firstName}}, {{handle}}, {{followerCount}} and the other variables. See “Using Variables And Fallbacks In Your Own DM”.

The AI does not browse the profile itself; it works only from these details.

4. Freshness

The details are what the page showed when DMpro read it. After you move to another profile, click Refresh in the panel so DMpro reads the new one.

5. Sparse Profiles

With an empty bio, the AI has less to work with and messages get more generic. Add a fallback to your prompt (“If the bio is empty, mention their follower count”), or use fallbacks like {{firstName|there}} in an own DM.

6. What DMpro Keeps On Its Server

  • The public details of profiles you open in the extension.
  • The messages DMpro writes for you, and a record of the DMs it sent and whether they went out. DMpro uses this record to warn you before you send the same person a second single-profile DM (campaign DMs are kept with their campaign).
  • For campaigns, each recipient’s details, message and result, which you can see in the campaign details and export as CSV.

Related questions:

DMpro works on Instagram and TikTok with the same steps, and this article covers the few differences between the two.

1. Same Flow On Both

Single-profile DMs, Your Own DM, campaigns, Auto Send DM and Auto Email work the same way on both platforms. One campaign targets one platform; create two campaigns to reach both. One difference: a single-profile TikTok DM counts as sent once DMpro hands it to TikTok’s messages page, so check the chat if in doubt (campaigns wait for TikTok to confirm).

2. How The DM Is Sent

  • Instagram: DMpro opens the conversation from the profile and sends the message.
  • TikTok: DMpro hands the message to TikTok’s messages page. In campaigns it waits for that page to finish sending (up to 90 seconds) before it opens the next profile, so a TikTok DM is never interrupted by the next one.

3. Profile Details

  • Instagram profiles give DMpro the name, username, bio, followers, following and posts.
  • TikTok profiles give the name, username, bio, followers, following and likes (DMpro reads likes where Instagram has posts).

In Your Own DM, {{postCount}} is Instagram only; on TikTok it stays empty, so give it a fallback or leave it out.

4. Daily Limit Defaults For Campaigns

New campaigns start from your Automation defaults. While your default daily limit is the standard 30, a new TikTok campaign starts at 20 a day instead. Any number you save yourself is used as is on both platforms.

5. Prompt Tone By Platform

You can keep one prompt for both, or keep two (for example “IG collab” and “TT collab”) and make the right one active before you send or start a campaign.

6. Safety On Both

Both platforms watch for automation patterns. Use realistic delays and daily limits for campaigns on either one, and consider Safety Mode for new accounts. See “Safety Mode: What It Does And Why Use It”.

Related questions:

Instagram and TikTok limit how many DMs an account can send, and this article explains what DMpro does to keep your sending pace safe and what stays up to you.

1. The Platforms Do Not Publish Their Limits

Instagram and TikTok decide for each account how much messaging looks normal. Newer accounts, sudden bursts and identical messages are the most common triggers for a temporary block.

2. What DMpro Controls For Campaigns

  • Delays between DMs. A random time between your Min and Max delay passes between two DMs, never less than the Min. The Min delay is at least 30 seconds and both delays are at most 3,600 seconds.
  • A daily limit per campaign, from 1 to 200 DMs a day, reset at your own midnight.
  • Safety Mode, which makes new campaigns send at most 20 DMs a day with 3 to 6 minutes between them.
  • One campaign at a time per browser. The extension sends one DM at a time and runs one campaign at a time.
  • Never the same DM twice. A campaign DM that may already have gone out is never sent again.

See “Campaign Settings: Daily Limits And Delays” and “Safety Mode: What It Does And Why Use It”.

3. What Stays Up To You

  • Single-profile DMs are not limited by Safety Mode or the daily limit. With Auto Send DM on, each Generate or Fill in sends a DM.
  • Several campaigns each have their own daily limit; their totals add up over time.
  • DMpro does not detect platform blocks or warnings. If Instagram or TikTok shows you a warning, pause your campaigns yourself.

4. How To Avoid Blocks

  • Turn Safety Mode on for new or recently restricted accounts.
  • Keep delays generous and daily limits modest, and raise them slowly.
  • Vary your wording: spintax in Your Own DM or Rotate prompts in AI campaigns.
  • Message people who are a good fit, so fewer people report you.

5. What To Do After A Block

  1. Pause your campaigns (dashboard Campaigns, or the extension’s campaign screen).
  2. Turn off Auto Send DM for single profiles.
  3. Wait until the platform lifts the restriction, usually a day or two.
  4. Restart with Safety Mode on and a lower daily limit.

Related questions:

The message box in the extension is where you see, edit and copy a DM before it goes out, and this article explains how it behaves with and without Auto Send DM.

1. Where The Message Appears

After you click Generate or Fill in, the message appears in the box under the profile on the main screen of the side panel.

2. With Auto Send DMs Off: Review First

The message waits in the box. You can:

  • Edit it freely. Your edits do not change your prompt or your own DM.
  • Click Copy To Clipboard and paste it into the DM yourself.
  • Click Generate again for a new version (AI Prompt mode: 1 more credit) or Fill in again for another wording of your own DM (free).

3. With Auto Send DMs On: No Review Step

DMpro sends the message as soon as it is written or filled in. Turn Auto Send DMs off whenever you want to read each message first.

4. Previewing Your Own DM Before Using It

For Your Own DM, the Prompts and Messages page shows Preview: 3 DMs in a row for sample profiles, so you can check variables and wording before anything is sent. See “Previewing Your Own DM Before It Goes Out”.

5. Messages Remembered Per Profile

DMpro remembers the message it wrote for each profile in this browser. When you come back to that profile with Smart Message Update on Manual, the message you wrote for it shows again.

6. Length

Instagram cuts a DM at about 1,000 characters. Keep AI messages short with a length rule in your prompt; the own DM editor warns you when a version can get longer than that.

7. Copy For Places DMpro Does Not Send

For story replies or a video’s message button, copy the message and paste it yourself.

Related questions:

If a single-profile DM cannot be sent, DMpro tells you why and handles your credit fairly, and this article explains the messages and what to do next.

1. Messages You May See

  • “Auto-DM failed: [reason].” The page did not let DMpro send, for example because the message button was missing or the account does not accept DMs.
  • “We couldn’t confirm the DM to @username went out. Check the chat before sending again.” The page did not answer, so the DM may or may not have been sent. (With an AI message and Auto Email off, this shows as “Auto-DM technical error: [reason]”; check the chat the same way.)
  • “Not sent: this message was written for @name, but the tab now shows @other.” Go back to the right profile, or click Refresh to write one for the new profile.
  • “Auto-DM failed: Please switch to an Instagram or TikTok tab to send direct messages”
  • “The DM didn’t go through, so DMpro emailed @username at [address] instead.” Auto Email delivered it by email.

2. What Happens To Your Credit

  • AI Prompt mode: the credit was used when the AI wrote the message, so a failed send does not give it back. If the AI itself failed to write, you were not charged.
  • Your Own DM mode: the credit is reserved right before the send and given back when the DM fails (“Your credit was given back.”). When DMpro cannot tell whether the DM went out, the credit is kept, because it may have been sent. A DM that failed but was delivered by Auto Email counts as sent.

3. Single-Profile DMs Are Not Retried Automatically

Check the conversation, then send again with Generate or Fill in if it really did not go out.

4. Campaign DMs

In campaigns, a failed DM is marked Failed with its reason and is not retried. A DM that was being sent when Chrome closed is marked failed and “interrupted, not resent”, so nobody gets the same DM twice. See “Per-Username Statuses Explained”.

5. Common Causes And Fixes

  • Signed out of Instagram or TikTok: sign in again in the same Chrome.
  • The profile does not accept your DMs (for example private or restricted messaging): skip it.
  • The page changed or loaded slowly: reload the page and click Refresh in the panel.
  • The platform restricted your account: stop sending for now. See “Instagram Blocked Me: What To Do”.
  • An outdated extension: update DMpro in chrome://extensions (turn on Developer mode and press Update), or reinstall it from the Chrome Web Store. See “Updating The Extension To The Latest Version”.

6. Reporting A Persistent Problem

If sends keep failing, contact support with your DMpro email, the profile address, a screenshot of the message and your Chrome version.

Related questions:

DMpro reads and messages people from their profile pages, not from individual Reels or videos, and this article explains how to reach someone you found through their content.

1. Reels And Videos Are Not Profile Pages

When you watch an Instagram Reel or a TikTok video, the address looks like instagram.com/reel/CODE or tiktok.com/@user/video/CODE. DMpro reads profiles correctly only on profile pages: on a TikTok video page Refresh does nothing, and on an Instagram Reel page it would read the wrong details. Always open the profile first.

2. Getting To The Profile

  • Instagram Reel: click the account’s username or picture.
  • TikTok video: click the account’s username.

On the profile, click Refresh in the DMpro panel, then Generate (or Fill in for your own DM).

3. Sending From A Reel Or Video Directly

The message buttons on a Reel or video are not automated. If you want to reply to a specific video, copy the message from DMpro and paste it there yourself.

4. The Workflow

  1. Watch the Reel or video.
  2. Open the profile.
  3. Click Refresh in the DMpro panel.
  4. Click Generate or Fill in.
  5. Either let Auto Send DMs send it from the profile, or turn Auto Send DMs off, copy the message and paste it where you want.

5. Attaching A Post To Your DM

To share a post along with your message, use Instagram’s or TikTok’s share button and paste the DMpro message as the text. DMpro writes the message; you handle the attachment.

6. Best Practice

For volume, message from profiles (or use a campaign). For a few high-value pitches that reference a specific video, use the copy-and-paste flow.

Related questions:

Auto Email sends the same message as an email when the profile’s bio shows an email address, and this article explains when it emails people and how to set it up.

1. What Auto Email Does

When DMpro sends a DM for you and the person’s bio shows an email address, Auto Email emails them the exact same message. It works for single-profile DMs (with Auto Send DM on) and for campaigns that send DMs.

2. Which Plans Include It

Auto Email is part of the Growth, Professional and Enterprise plans (including trials, gift plans and one-time credit packs of those plans while their credits last). On Free and Starter the card is locked and shows See plans.

3. Choose When To Email

Under Send the email, pick one:

  • With every DM (the default): every DM DMpro sends is also emailed.
  • Only if the DM fails: the email goes out only when the DM could not be sent, so the person still gets your message.

4. Add Your Business Address

Anti-spam laws (CASL, CAN-SPAM) require a postal address in outreach email. Enter it in Your business address (shown in the email footer) and click Save address (dashboard) or Save (extension). Auto Email cannot be turned on without it.

5. Turn It On

Flip the Auto Email switch. You can do this in three places, which all show the same setting:

  • Dashboard: Prompts and Messages, or Automation.
  • Extension: account menu, Automation settings.

6. When An Email Is Not Sent

  • The bio shows no email address (DMpro never uses emails found elsewhere on the page).
  • DMpro did not send the DM itself (for example you copied and pasted it).
  • The person unsubscribed from DMpro emails.
  • This person already got an email from you through DMpro in the last 30 days.
  • You reached your plan’s email limit for the hour or the day.
  • DMpro could not tell whether the DM went out (for example the page stopped answering), so it does not email on top of it.
  • In a campaign with Auto-send DMs off: DMpro only writes or prepares the messages, so it emails nobody.

7. What It Costs

Emails do not use credits. Credits work as usual for the DM: 1 per AI-written message, or 1 per own DM sent. With Your Own DM, a DM that failed but was delivered by email counts as one DM sent.

8. Turning It Off

Flip the switch off on any of the three pages. An AI app can turn Auto Email off for you right away; turning it on, switching an active Auto Email to With every DM, or setting a new business address waits for your approval. See “Approving Or Rejecting Requests That Wait In DMpro”.

Related questions:

DMpro’s outreach email follows clear rules to protect you and the people you email, and this article lists them.

1. Who Can Use It

Auto Email needs a Growth, Professional or Enterprise plan, Auto Email turned on, and a business address. Manual Send Email in the extension works on every plan.

2. Email Limits Per Account

  • Free, Starter and Growth: up to 60 emails an hour and 300 a day.
  • Professional and Enterprise: up to 200 an hour and 2,000 a day, shown as “Unlimited email sending (fair use)”.

These limits count every outreach email together: manual, Auto Email and campaign emails. Above them you see “Email limit reached” with your plan’s numbers.

3. The Same Person At Most Once In 30 Days

DMpro does not email the same person automatically more than once every 30 days, even across different campaigns. A manual email also starts this 30-day window. In a campaign, each person is emailed at most once.

4. What The Email Looks Like

  • From: “Your Name via DMpro” (the name on your DMpro account; without one, DMpro’s sending address). Replies go to your own email address.
  • Subject: “A quick note for you”, or “A quick note for you, [Name]” when your message starts with Hey, Hi or Hello and a name (for example “Hi Nicki,”). Greetings like “Hey there,” keep the plain subject.
  • Body: the exact DM text.
  • Footer: “Sent by [your name] ([your email]) via DMpro” with your business address, and an unsubscribe link (“Don’t want emails like this? Unsubscribe”).

5. Unsubscribes

The unsubscribe link opens a page that asks “Unsubscribe?” and confirms “You’re unsubscribed”. From then on that address never receives outreach email sent through DMpro again, from you or any other DMpro user. Mail apps that offer one-click unsubscribe use the same list.

6. Only Addresses In The Bio

Auto Email only writes to an address shown in the person’s bio (or, where Find Creators emails are available on your account, the address DMpro holds for a creator you revealed).

7. In Campaigns

  • With With every DM, the person gets the DM and the email; the recipient shows “DM + email”.
  • With Only if the DM fails, a failed DM followed by a successful email counts as sent and shows “by email”.
  • If DMpro cannot tell whether a DM went out (for example the page stopped answering), it does not send an email.

8. If Auto Email Is On But Not Sending

Check that your plan includes it and that your business address is saved. The card tells you what is missing (“Add your business address to start sending”).
