Getting Started

Onboarding & Persona Setup

How the Brand, Creator, and Business personas differ, what each onboarding flow asks for, and how to connect Ainfluencer or your brandID profile along the way.

During onboarding, DMpro asks you to pick one of three personas: Brand, Creator, or Business. This choice branches the rest of the onboarding flow and seeds a persona-specific starter prompt, so it’s worth picking the one that actually matches what you’re doing.

DMpro is used by three very different kinds of people. Brands typically send outreach at a much higher volume, Creators focus on personalized pitches, and Businesses often send to non-creator profiles. The persona just picks the right defaults so you don’t have to reinvent the wheel.

PersonaPick this if you…What it seeds
BrandRun marketing campaigns for a company that pays creators, or manage influencer relationships at scaleA partnership-style starter prompt, plus an optional step to connect Ainfluencer or create a brand persona
CreatorPost on Instagram or TikTok yourself and reach out to brands, sponsors, or fellow creatorsA collab-pitch starter prompt, an optional step to connect your brandID profile, and a “creator offerings” step
BusinessDo B2B outreach, sell a product or service, recruit talent, or just don’t fit the other twoA B2B-style starter prompt built from your business type, offer, and ideal customer

Whichever persona you pick, you go through the same core steps: platform, use case, goal, experience level, and your Instagram/TikTok handles. Each persona then branches into its own connect step, covered in the questions below.

Not sure which one fits? Pick the persona that best describes what most of your DMs will be about. You can always change it later, and nothing about your account gets locked in.

Brand onboarding is the longest of the three personas, because DMpro tries to connect your campaign details from Ainfluencer so your DMs can auto-fill campaign specifics. Here’s the full flow.

  1. Pick “Brand” as your persona on the persona step, then continue.
  2. Pick your platform. Choose Instagram, TikTok, or both. This just sets which platform the extension focuses on first; you can send to both later regardless of this choice.
  3. Pick your use case. Creator outreach (paid partnerships with individual creators), Sales (B2B pitches), Recruiting, Community, or Other (free text).
  4. Pick your goal. Casual (a few DMs a week), Growing (20 to 100 a week), or Scaling (hundreds a week or more). This helps DMpro suggest the right plan later: casual users usually stay on Starter or Growth, scaling users need Professional or Enterprise.
  5. Pick your experience. First time, Used other tools, or Pro. This sets your default Safety Mode: first-timers default to Safety Mode on, pros default to off.
  6. Enter your Instagram and TikTok handles. Just the public handle, with or without the @, no login credentials needed. DMpro uses this to enforce the one-account-per-plan fingerprint policy.
  7. Connect or create (Brand-only step). Choose to connect Ainfluencer and pull in your active campaign, manually create a brand persona with your brand’s name, niche, and campaign details, or skip and add campaign details later per prompt.
  8. Complete onboarding. You’ll see your seeded starter prompt (editable), your credit balance (10 for the free tier), and a button to install or open the extension. Click Get Started to land on your dashboard.

Ainfluencer is a brand-side influencer marketing platform, also part of the brandID family. Brands create campaigns describing what they’re looking for, and creators apply. Connecting your Ainfluencer account to DMpro lets your active campaigns auto-fill message templates without any copy-pasting, and lets you pull a list of matched creators to use as your DMpro target list.

When to connect

Connect during onboarding if you already have an Ainfluencer account, or connect later from Dashboard → Ainfluencer.

How to connect

  1. Go to Dashboard → Ainfluencer.
  2. Click Connect Ainfluencer.
  3. Enter your Ainfluencer email and password.
  4. DMpro signs you in to Ainfluencer server-side and saves an access token securely.
  5. A green banner confirms the connection.
Your Ainfluencer password is never stored, only the resulting access token, and that token stays server-side. It’s never exposed to your browser or the extension, and every Ainfluencer API call from DMpro goes through a server-side proxy for security.
Your Ainfluencer token typically lasts about 30 days. When it expires, DMpro shows a “Reconnect Ainfluencer” banner in the dashboard. Click it and re-enter your credentials to refresh.

Selecting a campaign and using variables

Once connected, DMpro pulls your Ainfluencer campaign list. Click Select on the campaign you want to use for outreach, and its title, description, and short link become available as prompt variables: {campaign_title}, {campaign_description}, and {campaign_url}. For example: “Hey {name}, we’re running a campaign called ‘{campaign_title}’ and I think you’d be a great fit. Here’s the details: {campaign_url}.” DMpro fills these in automatically when generating messages.

To switch campaigns, go back to Dashboard → Ainfluencer and select a different one; the change applies to all future generations. To disconnect, go to Dashboard → Ainfluencer → Disconnect, which deletes your access token from DMpro’s server. Any prompts still using campaign variables show a placeholder or empty string until you reconnect.

Ainfluencer is entirely optional. DMpro works fine without it, but if you already run campaigns there, connecting removes the friction between the two tools.

Creator onboarding focuses on your identity as a creator, so DMpro can auto-populate your handle, niche, and offerings in every DM you send.

  1. Pick “Creator” as your persona on the persona step, then continue.
  2. Pick your platform. Instagram, TikTok, or both; this decides where the extension focuses first.
  3. Pick your use case. Creator outreach (pitching brands for sponsorships), Community (DMing your audience), or Other (free text).
  4. Pick your goal and experience. Same options as other personas: casual, growing, or scaling for goal; first-time, used-other-tools, or pro for experience.
  5. Enter your Instagram and TikTok handles. These become part of your creator profile and can be used as prompt variables.
  6. Connect brandID (Creator-only step). If you already have a brandID link-in-bio profile, connect it so DMpro pulls in your handle, page URL, display name, and niche. Or skip and fill in your creator info manually per prompt.
  7. Creator offerings. Check any that apply: Collabs (sponsored posts, brand deals, affiliate content) and/or Billboards (fixed placements on your profile, like banner ads or pinned content). These become tags on your creator profile and can be used as the {my_offerings} prompt variable.
  8. Complete onboarding. You’ll see a starter prompt seeded with creator-specific defaults, your credit balance, and a button to install or open the extension. Click Get Started to enter the dashboard.

brandID is a link-in-bio platform, also part of the brandID family. Creators use it as their “one link” on Instagram or TikTok that hosts all their other links, videos, and shop items. If you have a brandID profile, DMpro can use it as your creator identity, pulling in your handle, page URL, display name, and niche automatically.

When to connect

Connect during Creator persona onboarding, or later from Dashboard → Profile → Connected Services → brandID.

How to connect

  1. Go to Dashboard → Profile → Connected Services.
  2. Click Connect brandID.
  3. Enter your brandID handle (for example, @yourname).
  4. DMpro fetches your public brandID data: page URL, display name, and niche description.
  5. A confirmation banner appears.

What gets pulled in

Your handle, your brandID page URL (like brandid.app/yourname), your display name, and your niche description (for example, “Fashion creator based in NYC”). These become prompt variables: {my_handle}, {my_url}, {my_display_name}, and {my_niche}. For example: “Hi {name}, I’m {my_display_name}, a {my_niche}. I’d love to collab, check out my work at {my_url}.”

If you update your display name or niche on brandID, click Refresh on the Connected Services page to pull the latest. To disconnect, go to Dashboard → Profile → Connected Services → Disconnect brandID; your data is cleared and prompts using {my_*} variables fall back to empty strings.

Connecting brandID is entirely optional. DMpro works without it, but if you already have a profile, connecting saves time and keeps your creator identity consistent across both tools.

Business onboarding focuses on your offer and ideal customer, so DMpro can seed a B2B-focused starter prompt.

  1. Pick “Business” as your persona on the persona step, then continue.
  2. Pick your platform, use case, goal, and experience. Same steps as other personas. Businesses typically pick Instagram (TikTok is less common for B2B, but growing), Sales/Recruiting/Other for use case, and Growing or Scaling for goal.
  3. Enter your Instagram and TikTok handles. Usually your company’s official account.
  4. Answer three Business-only questions: your business type (industry, free text), your offer (what you sell, up to 500 characters), and your ideal customer (who you’re targeting). These become the {business_type}, {offer}, and {ideal_customer} prompt variables.
  5. Review your seeded starter prompt, something like: “Hi {name}, I noticed you’re at {their_company} and thought you might be interested in {offer}. We help {ideal_customer} with this. Would you be open to a quick chat?” You can edit it in the Prompts section after onboarding.
  6. Complete onboarding. Click Get Started and you’ll land on your dashboard with your starter prompt ready to test.

Best practices for B2B outreach on Instagram

  • Follow first. Some businesses require a follow before they’ll accept DMs from strangers.
  • Keep it short. Decision-makers are looking for signal, not a sales pitch. 2-3 sentences works best.
  • Reference something specific. Use the profile bio or a recent post as context.
  • Have a clear ask. “Want to chat?” is fine. Long CTAs get ignored.
Business persona sending on Instagram often outperforms cold email in reply rates for the right ideal customer. But Instagram rate limits are strict, so start slow (10-20 DMs a day) and scale as you learn what works.

During onboarding you pick Instagram, TikTok, or both as your primary platform. Here’s what that choice actually affects, and how to send on both later regardless of what you pick.

What it affects

  • Sets the default active platform for the extension; the first time you open it, it prompts you to visit that platform.
  • Seeds a slightly different starter prompt (IG-focused vs. TikTok-focused example).
  • Enables platform-specific features, like Email-in-Bio Scraping, which works only on Instagram.
  • Personalizes the onboarding walkthrough with platform-specific tips.

What it does NOT affect

  • Your ability to send on the other platform. You can send on both Instagram and TikTok regardless of what you pick during onboarding.
  • Your credit pool, which is shared across both platforms.
  • Your prompt selection. The same prompts work on both platforms.
PlatformProsCons
InstagramLarger user base for most niches, richer profile info (followers, bio, category), Email-in-Bio Scraping on Professional+, better read rates for creator outreachStricter rate limits, more likely to trigger anti-spam action if you send too fast
TikTokMore lenient rate limits for legit accounts, fast-growing audience for lifestyle and entertainment nichesShorter bios (less context for the AI), messages must be sent via the TikTok messages page, a different flow from Instagram

If you’re not sure, picking Both works well: the extension automatically switches into the correct mode based on the URL you’re browsing, and your credit pool stays shared. You can change your primary platform any time from Dashboard → Profile → Onboarding Preferences; this only affects default UI hints, nothing else in your account. You are never blocked from sending on a platform you didn’t pick during onboarding.

Yes, you can change your persona at any time from Dashboard → Profile → Onboarding Preferences. Your already-seeded prompt stays as-is (you can edit or delete it), and future prompts will use the new persona’s defaults.

DMpro doesn’t officially support “wearing multiple hats” in one account, but in practice most people handle it one of three ways:

  • Create separate prompts for each persona, one for brand pitches, one for creator collabs, and so on.
  • Switch your active prompt in the extension per DM depending on who you’re messaging.
  • If your personas are very different, create a second DMpro account.
Most users only ever need one persona. If you find yourself frequently switching prompts to match different outreach styles, that’s a sign a second prompt (not a second persona) is usually all you need.
