Chrome Extension

Installing & Using the Extension

How the DMpro popup and side panel work, what to do when the extension won’t load or detect a profile, updating it, permissions, multi-browser installs, and managing your connected social accounts.

DMpro has two extension modes: a compact popup and a persistent side panel. Both show the same core controls: your credit count (top left, e.g. “483 left this month”), your selected prompt name, the message area, a Generate button, a Send button, and a settings gear.

Popup mode (default)

Click the DMpro icon in your Chrome toolbar and a popup opens next to it. It closes when you click outside it or navigate to a new page. This is fine for casual, occasional DMs.

Side panel mode

The side panel opens on the right edge of your browser and stays there as you browse from profile to profile. It shows the same controls as the popup, but persistently, and it auto-refreshes as you navigate. To open it:

  • Right-click the DMpro icon in your toolbar and click Open Side Panel, or
  • Open the popup and click the small Open Side Panel link at the bottom.

You can freely switch between modes. Closing the side panel drops you back to popup-only mode, and you can reopen it from the right-click menu at any time.

Keyboard shortcuts

  • Enter in the message area sends the message.
  • Shift + Enter adds a new line.
  • Escape clears the message and resets.
Tip: the side panel is the better choice once you’re sending 10+ DMs in a session, running a campaign, or doing any kind of bulk outreach. The popup-then-close-then-navigate pattern gets tedious fast. Most people who try the side panel don’t go back to the popup.

If DMpro doesn’t open when you click the toolbar icon, run through these steps in order:

  1. Check it’s enabled. Go to chrome://extensions, find DMpro, and confirm the toggle on the card is on (blue). If DMpro isn’t listed at all, reinstall it from the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Reload the extension. On the same page, click the small circular reload icon on the DMpro card, then click the toolbar icon again.
  3. Restart your browser. Fully quit Chrome (Cmd+Q on Mac, or quit from the taskbar icon) and reopen it.
  4. Confirm you’re on a supported page. DMpro’s content script only runs on Instagram and TikTok profile pages, not the home feed or a logged-out view, and not on other sites at all.
  5. Sign in again if needed. Your DMpro session lasts 30 days; once it expires you’ll see a sign-in screen. Sign in with your email and the 6-digit code.
  6. Force an update. On chrome://extensions, toggle Developer mode on (top right), then click Update (top left). Reload the profile page and try again.
  7. Check for conflicting extensions. Ad blockers, script blockers, and privacy extensions (uBlock Origin with strict lists, Ghostery, some privacy VPN extensions) can interfere with content scripts. Disable other extensions one at a time to find the culprit.
  8. Try incognito mode. Enable DMpro for incognito under chrome://extensions → DMpro → Details, then test in an incognito window. If it works there but not normally, something in your regular profile is conflicting.
  9. Reinstall as a last resort. Remove DMpro from chrome://extensions, reinstall from the Chrome Web Store, and sign in again. Your prompts and settings live on the server, so they come back automatically.
Still stuck? Email [email protected] or use the Chatgram widget in the dashboard. Include your DMpro account email, your Chrome version (from chrome://settings/help), your operating system, and a screenshot of the chrome://extensions page showing DMpro. We usually respond within one business day.

Chrome auto-updates DMpro in the background, usually within 24 hours of a new release, and applies the update the next time you restart your browser (or immediately if the extension is idle). No action is needed on your part.

To check your current version, go to chrome://extensions and find DMpro; the version number (e.g. “1.9.1”) is shown under the extension name.

Forcing an update right now

  1. Go to chrome://extensions.
  2. Toggle Developer mode on (top right).
  3. Click Update (top left).

Chrome checks every installed extension for updates and installs any it finds; this takes about 10 seconds.

Look for a blue “What’s New” banner at the top of your dashboard after an update, and check the full changelog any time at dmpro.brandid.app/changelog.

Occasionally you’ll need to sign back in. A major update can require you to sign out and back in for the new features to appear. If you see a “Please sign in again” notice after an update, that’s expected: click it, sign in with your email and code, and the new features unlock.

If you’ve paused auto-update for a long time, the extension may show a “Please update” notice because a required server API has changed; use the force-update steps above to fix it. DMpro does not currently run a public beta channel; everyone is on the stable Chrome Web Store release.

When you install DMpro, Chrome asks you to approve several permissions. Here’s exactly what each one does and why DMpro needs it.

PermissionWhat it doesWhy DMpro needs it
StorageSaves your settings, prompts, and session token locally in Chrome’s extension storage. So your prompts and preferences persist between browser sessions, without you having to sign in and re-select a prompt every time.
ScriptingInjects DMpro’s content script into Instagram and TikTok pages. So the extension can read the profile you’re viewing (bio, follower count, username) and send DMs. Scope is limited to instagram.com and tiktok.com, nothing else.
webRequestObserves certain network requests to catch when Instagram or TikTok reject a message send.So DMpro can show accurate errors instead of a generic failure, and so Safety Mode can back off when a platform is signaling a rate limit.
Tabs & activeTabKnows which tab is currently active. So DMpro only acts on the profile you’re looking at, and the side panel refreshes when you switch tabs.
Side panelAllows the persistent side panel UI.One of the two extension modes; without it, only the popup would work.
AlarmsSchedules small background tasks. For campaign runners that send on a schedule with delays between messages, and for periodic checks of your session validity.
CookiesReads cookies from Instagram and TikTok.So DMpro knows you’re logged in and can send through your existing session. These cookies are never sent to our servers; they stay in your browser.

Host permissions are limited to: *.instagram.com and *.tiktok.com (to read profiles and send DMs), the DMpro server, *.stripe.com (payment processing), and the Chatgram support widget host. DMpro cannot read data from any other website.

What DMpro never has access to: your Instagram or TikTok password, your DMs in other conversations, any other website’s data (banking, email, etc.), or your general browsing history. It only knows about profile pages you deliberately visit while it’s active.

Warning: be cautious of “DMpro-like” extensions from other publishers on the Chrome Web Store. The official DMpro is published by the brandID team. Always verify the publisher name before installing.

Yes. You can install DMpro on any number of Chromium-based browsers, each as a separate session, all sharing the same account.

Supported browsers

  • Google Chrome (fully supported)
  • Brave (fully supported; may need to enable the Chrome Web Store)
  • Microsoft Edge (fully supported)
  • Opera (works with the “Install Chrome Extensions” add-on)
  • Arc (works if it supports Chrome extensions)
  • Vivaldi (fully supported)

Not supported: Safari and Firefox, since both use a different extension architecture.

How it works across browsers

Install DMpro on each browser and sign in separately with your email and the 6-digit code. Your prompts, credits, and settings sync automatically because they live on the server. Signing out on one browser doesn’t sign you out on another; each has its own session token.

People typically use multiple browsers to separate a personal Instagram from a business one, to give different team members their own browser on a shared workstation, or to test a prompt on a fresh browser before rolling it out.

Your generation quota is per account, not per browser. If you have 500 credits this month, they’re shared across every browser you’re signed in on.

Fingerprint blocking looks at the Instagram or TikTok account you send from, not the browser. Using DMpro on Browser A with Instagram account X and Browser B with Instagram account Y is fine. Signing in to the same Instagram or TikTok account under two different DMpro accounts, however, will trigger the fingerprint block.

Tip: if your team needs to share one DMpro account across multiple connected social accounts, look at the Enterprise plan rather than creating separate DMpro accounts. Multiple DMpro accounts sharing the same social account gets penalized by the fingerprint policy.

The extension includes a built-in video walkthrough. Open the DMpro extension and look for the How To Use Extension section (usually a collapsible panel or a “Play Video” button). Clicking it opens the tutorial on YouTube in a new tab.

It opens in a new tab rather than playing inside the extension because Chrome extensions have strict Content Security Policy rules, and embedding a YouTube player inside an extension isn’t reliable. Opening it in a new tab gives you full YouTube controls and smooth playback.

What the video covers

  • Installing and pinning the extension
  • Signing in
  • Editing your default prompt
  • Sending your first personalized DM on Instagram
  • Sending on TikTok (and how it differs)
  • Enabling side panel mode
  • Turning on Auto-Send DM

It runs about 4 minutes and is available any time from the extension. You can also find it by searching “DMpro tutorial” on YouTube.

Prefer reading over watching? Every topic in the video also has a written article in this Knowledge Base, particularly under Getting Started and the guides on sending DMs.

If DMpro shows a “Go to a supported profile” message even though you think you’re on the right page, work through these:

  1. Confirm you’re on a profile page. DMpro activates on URLs like instagram.com/username or tiktok.com/@username, not on the home feed, explore/discover pages, reels or video pages by themselves, the DMs inbox, or notifications. Navigate to a specific creator or business profile.
  2. Check you’re logged in. DMpro reads your existing browser session to send DMs, so sign in to Instagram or TikTok first if you haven’t.
  3. Refresh the page. The content script can occasionally fail to inject on the first load, especially after navigating quickly. Hard reload with Cmd+R (Mac) or Ctrl+R (Windows).
  4. Check extension permissions. Open chrome://extensions, click Details on the DMpro card, and confirm Site access is set to “On all sites” or specifically includes instagram.com and tiktok.com, and that Allow in Incognito is enabled if that’s where you’re browsing.
  5. Rule out a blocked content script. Ad blockers or privacy tools (uBlock Origin with strict lists, Ghostery, DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials) sometimes block content scripts on Instagram or TikTok specifically. Disable your ad blocker, refresh, and see if DMpro activates; if so, whitelist Instagram and TikTok in the blocker instead of leaving it off.
  6. Try incognito. Make sure DMpro is allowed in incognito (chrome://extensions → DMpro → Details), then log in and test there. If it works in incognito but not normally, an extension in your regular profile is conflicting.
  7. Update Chrome. Go to chrome://settings/help and let Chrome install any pending update, then restart.
Instagram and TikTok occasionally redesign their pages. If DMpro suddenly stops working after a redesign, our team usually ships a fix within 24 to 48 hours; check the Chrome Web Store for an update or contact support.

Still stuck? Email [email protected] with the platform (Instagram or TikTok), the exact URL you were on, your Chrome version, and a screenshot of the error.

A “connected social account” is an Instagram or TikTok handle your DMpro account is authorized to send from. DMpro never asks for your Instagram or TikTok password; instead, it uses whichever account you’re already logged in to in your browser. The connection lets DMpro show usage stats per social account, enforce the one-account-per-plan-tier fingerprint policy, and route the right AI prompt if you use different tones on different accounts.

Connected accounts by plan

PlanConnected social accounts
Free1 Instagram + 1 TikTok (up to 2 total)
Starter, Growth1 Instagram + 1 TikTok (up to 2 total)
ProfessionalUp to 3, any mix of Instagram and TikTok
EnterpriseUp to 10, any mix

Adding an account

You don’t manually add a social account. Sign in to the Instagram or TikTok account in your browser, open that platform in a tab, then open the DMpro extension: it detects the logged-in handle and adds it to your connected accounts list automatically. You’ll see the new handle the next time you visit Dashboard → Profile.

Removing an account

Go to Dashboard → Profile → Connected Social Accounts and click the trash icon next to the account. This only removes the association from DMpro; it doesn’t touch anything on Instagram or TikTok. If you sign in to that account again in a browser with DMpro installed, the connection is re-created.

Switching between accounts

Sign out of Instagram or TikTok in that browser (or use a different browser), sign in to a different account, then open DMpro; it detects the new account automatically. Your prompt, credit count, and settings stay tied to your DMpro account, only the sending identity changes.

Signing in to the same Instagram or TikTok account under two different DMpro emails triggers the fingerprint block. The rule is one social account belongs to one DMpro account; sharing across DMpro accounts isn’t supported.

On Enterprise, up to 10 people on one team can share a DMpro account and send from up to 10 connected social accounts; contact [email protected] for team setup.

Tip: if you outgrow your plan’s connected-account limit, upgrade to Professional or Enterprise rather than creating multiple DMpro accounts. Multiple accounts sharing one social account get penalized by the fingerprint policy.
