How to connect Windsurf to contactID

Add contactID to Windsurf’s Cascade panel through its MCP configuration file and sign in. It takes about 3 minutes.

Before you start

A contactID account you can sign in to
Windsurf installed on your computer

Open AI Assist and copy the address

In the dashboard at https://contactid.brandid.app/, open Account in the sidebar and choose AI Assist (MCP). Open the Apps tab. On the right is the panel Connect an AI app.

Press Copy next to the address, which is:

https://contactid.brandid.app/mcp

Under Steps for your app, press Windsurf to see the steps for that app.

Open the MCP configuration in Cascade

In Windsurf, open the Cascade panel. Open MCP servers and choose to configure them. This opens the MCP configuration file.

Add contactID to the file

Add this to the MCP configuration file (the Copy button in the contactID panel copies it for you):

If the file already lists other servers, add only the contactid line inside your existing mcpServers block, and save the file.

Refresh the servers and sign in

Refresh the servers in Cascade. When asked, sign in to contactID in the browser window that opens. If you signed in more than 10 minutes ago, enter the 6-digit code contactID emails you.

You always sign in on contactID’s own page. The AI app never sees your password.

Choose what Windsurf may do and press Allow

Choose View only, View and manage or Custom. If you are unsure, start with View only.

For an app contactID does not know, the page asks you to tick I trust this app and I started this connection myself. Tick it only if you did start it, then press Allow. If a connection page opens that you did not start, press Cancel.

Watch the 100-tool limit

Windsurf allows 100 tools in total across all servers. If you reach that, turn off tools you do not need in Cascade.

Then ask something that only looks, for example Show me my Agents, and check Account, AI Assist (MCP), Apps in the dashboard to see the app under Connected apps.

Tips

The 100 tools are counted across every MCP server in Windsurf, not only contactID.
Anything that reaches people or spends credits asks you first, and nothing is sent unless you start sending or say yes.
Sending and checking websites happen on your computer. For an AI app to add websites or send, keep Chrome open with the contactID extension signed in to the same account, and keep Let AI apps use contactID on this computer on in Settings, Sync & AI access. If something goes wrong

Windsurf says it has too many tools

Windsurf allows 100 tools in total across all servers. Turn off tools you do not need, in Cascade, and refresh the servers.

contactID does not connect

Check the address is exactly https://contactid.brandid.app/mcp, refresh the servers and sign in when asked. Remove contactID from the file and add it again if it still fails.

A request says it cannot reach my computer

Open Chrome with the contactID extension signed in to the same account, and check Let AI apps use contactID on this computer is on in Settings, Sync & AI access.
