Sprout Social Review (2026): Features, Pricing, Pros & Cons

Sprout Social is one of the best-known social media management platforms for teams. It launched in 2010 in Chicago, went public on Nasdaq (ticker SPT) in December 2019, and now sells publishing, a unified inbox, analytics, social listening, employee advocacy and influencer marketing as one product family. Its reputation is built on a clean interface, reliable scheduling and reporting that non-analysts can actually use.

It is also priced at the high end of its category, and it charges per seat. This review covers what Sprout Social does, what each of its five plans includes, what a real team pays, what its users say on G2, where it falls short and who it suits. Every product and pricing fact comes from Sprout Social’s own website, support center or SEC filings, checked on 6 October 2026. Anything we could not confirm is labeled as such.

Key Takeaways

Key Takeaways
  • What it is: a team-oriented social media management suite: publishing, Smart Inbox, analytics, plus listening, employee advocacy and influencer marketing as paid add-ons.
  • Pricing: per seat per month, billed annually: Essentials 79, Standard 199, Professional 299, Advanced 399, Enterprise custom (USD). Monthly billing costs 99, 249, 399 and 499 for the first four.
  • The catch: every extra user is another seat. A team of three on Professional pays about 897 a month. Listening, Premium Analytics and Employee Advocacy are quote-only add-ons.
  • Strengths: scheduling with optimal send times, a Smart Inbox with case management, easy reporting, Trellis AI on every plan, SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001 security.
  • Reputation: 4.4 out of 5 on G2 from 6,874 reviews. Users praise ease of use and scheduling, and complain most about missing features and cost.
  • Best for: small and mid-sized marketing and customer care teams that value polish and reporting and can pay per seat. Weak for solo creators and tight-budget agencies.

What Is Sprout Social?

Sprout Social describes itself as a social media management platform, and its product is built around five jobs: plan and publish content, handle incoming messages in one inbox, report on performance, listen to conversations across the web, and increasingly, use an AI agent to do the analysis for you. Teams use it to schedule posts, reply to customers, tag and report on campaigns, and show leadership what social delivers.

The company was founded in 2010 by Justyn Howard, Gil Lara, Aaron Rankin and Peter Soung, and is headquartered in Chicago, with offices in Dublin and Krakow. According to its FY2025 annual filing it had 1,362 full-time employees at the end of 2025 and reported revenue of 457.5 million dollars for the year. Sprout Social says it has more than 30,000 paying customers, while the same filing says only “tens of thousands”. It has grown partly through acquisitions: Simply Measured (analytics, 2017), Repustate (2023), Tagger (influencer marketing, 2023) and NewsWhip (media intelligence, 2025).

Two further products are sold separately: Employee Advocacy (formerly Bambu) lets staff share approved content, and Influencer Marketing (built on Tagger) needs no Sprout Social plan at all. Both are priced by quote.

Key Features of Sprout Social

1. Publishing and scheduling

Every plan, including Essentials, has a collaborative content calendar, an advanced scheduler that sets several days and times at once, drafting, multi-network and multi-profile publishing, a built-in image editor, hashtag suggestions, location tagging, and the ability to pause all queued messages in a crisis. Content can be boosted into paid promotion on Facebook and Instagram, and posts can be scheduled up to 180 days ahead according to Sprout’s publishing page.

Sprout Queue and ViralPost are its signature scheduling tools. ViralPost, also called Optimal Send Times, scores each profile in five-minute steps using the last 16 weeks of its engagement data, refreshes weekly, and is available on every plan. The Sprout Queue releases a fixed number of posts per day per profile.

Professional and above unlock the features that matter for teams: bulk scheduling, Instagram grid planning, cross-network audience targeting, campaign tagging, advanced publishing permissions, a message approval workflow, custom link tracking and a digital asset library that imports from Canva, Bynder, Adobe Experience Manager, Dropbox and Google Drive. Advanced adds an external approval workflow, so reviewers can approve posts without a Sprout login, a publishing rule builder and automated link tracking.

Bulk scheduling has limits worth knowing before you plan around it. Sprout’s help center says you can import up to 350 messages per CSV, but only on Professional and Advanced, only for X, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, with no videos, and trial accounts are limited to 50 per import. Messages must be at least 10 minutes apart.

2. Smart Inbox and customer care

The Smart Inbox pulls comments, direct messages, mentions and reviews from your connected profiles into one stream. It starts on the Standard plan; Essentials has no inbox. Standard and up include real-time keyword and brand monitoring, contact views with notes and history, message completion, collision detection so two teammates do not answer the same message, comment moderation, case management, custom inbox views and mobile push notifications.

Conversation history is 90 days on Standard and full history on Professional and Advanced. Professional adds saved replies, message tagging and engagement reporting. Advanced is where Sprout becomes a customer care tool: case routing for teams, CSAT and NPS surveys, macros, sentiment classification, approvals for replies, message spike alerts, a rule builder, and a rules-based chatbot builder for X DMs and Facebook Messenger.

Reviews are handled in the same inbox. Sprout lists Google Business Profile, Yelp, Tripadvisor, Facebook, the Apple App Store, Google Play, Trustpilot and Glassdoor as review sources, on Standard and above, with review sentiment on Advanced.

3. Analytics and reporting

Every plan includes profile, group and post reports with unlimited PDF and CSV downloads, a cross-network group report, a Google Analytics report and custom date comparisons. Network reports cover Instagram, Facebook, X, Bluesky, Threads, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube and Pinterest.

Professional adds Facebook, X and Instagram competitor reports, paid social performance reports, a tag report and custom report branding. Advanced adds team activity reports, customer care reporting, scheduled report emails and a BI integration through the API.

Premium Analytics is a separate paid add-on for Standard and up. It provides a report builder with 150 or more additional metrics, interactive charts, filtering by tag and content type, and an AI widget that summarizes charts. Sprout does not publish its price.

4. Social listening

Listening is an add-on to Standard, Professional or Advanced, not part of the base plans. It includes a query builder that does not require Boolean search, smart categories, sentiment scoring, spike alerts, competitor comparison and brand health reporting. Sprout does not publish the price, so you must request a quote.

Its help center is open about the limits: default backfill is 30 days (12 or 24 months can be bought through your account manager), X data is sampled, public Facebook coverage is limited to Pages, and message-level demographic data is not available. Sources include X, Reddit, TikTok brand hashtags, Bluesky, Tumblr, YouTube, Instagram hashtags and web content.

5. Trellis AI and AI Assist

Trellis is Sprout’s AI agent, introduced in November 2025 and now available on every plan. Each user gets 100 Trellis credits per month. Credits are only used by Trellis chat and skills, not by the smaller AI Assist features. Trellis Plus raises that to 1,000 credits per user per month for 28 per user per month billed annually, or 35 monthly, and a fair-use cap still applies. Sprout does not publish how many credits a typical question costs.

AI Assist is a set of built-in helpers by plan: alt text generation on every plan, Enhance Post on Professional and above, and Enhance Reply and Summarize Conversation on Advanced and above.

6. Employee advocacy and influencer marketing

Employee Advocacy is an add-on for Standard and above that gives staff a feed of approved content, suggested captions, newsletters through Slack or Microsoft Teams, and tracking such as adoption, reach and earned media value. Influencer Marketing is sold separately and does not require a Sprout plan. It includes creator discovery, brand fit scoring, an influencer CRM, partnership ad boosting and attribution through links and pixels. Pricing for both is by quote.

7. Link in bio, mobile app, Chrome extension and API

SproutLink, the link-in-bio tool, is included on every plan and builds a landing page from your recent Instagram posts. Mobile apps for iOS and Android are on every plan, and a Chrome extension lets you compose a post from any web page. The Sprout Public API is limited to Advanced and above. Support is by phone and live chat 24 hours a day, 5 days a week on every plan, with priority support on Enterprise.

8. Security and compliance

Sprout holds SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 certifications, offers SAML 2.0 single sign-on, and includes two-factor authentication and profile-level access controls on every plan. Advanced adds feature visibility controls and IP allow lists. Data is hosted on AWS in the United States, and Sprout does not describe EU data residency. We could not confirm from the pricing page which plans include SSO.

Prices are in US dollars per seat per month. Annual billing is one upfront payment for the full term; monthly billing is month to month and costs more. The pricing page labels the annual discount at 20 percent for Standard and Advanced and 25 percent for Professional. A 30-day free trial needs no credit card. There is no free plan. How we calculated this
We multiplied the published per-seat price by the number of users. Sprout’s help center says the price of an additional user depends on your plan level and does not publish a separate extra-seat price, so confirm the exact figure with Sprout before budgeting. Extra profiles beyond the Essentials and Standard cap of five can also be added, but that price is not published. Listening, Premium Analytics, Employee Advocacy and Professional Services are not included in these numbers because Sprout does not publish them.

What Users Say About Sprout Social

Third-party reviews are the best check on a vendor’s own claims. On G2, Sprout Social scores 4.4 out of 5 from 6,874 reviews as of 6 October 2026. This is third-party opinion, not our own testing. Note that many recent G2 reviews are tagged as incentivized through a seller invite, which is common on review sites but worth keeping in mind.

The counts above are G2’s own tallies of themes across reviews. The pricing complaints are specific: several reviewers say adding even one extra seat is expensive, and some small teams say the cost is hard to justify when they only need organic reporting. That matches the per-seat model described above. Sprout also cites IDC and Forrester studies, but its Forrester Total Economic Impact study is commissioned by the vendor, so treat it as marketing.
