Visitor Checkout & Payments
Here is exactly what a fan sees when they tip you, buy a digital product, rent a billboard slot, or subscribe to your paid content, so you know how to reassure them or help them if something goes wrong.
Depending on what your fan is doing, they can pay with a credit or debit card (processed through Stripe), PayPal, or brandID’s built-in Wallet balance.
- Card and PayPal are available across tips, digital downloads, store products, billboard ad rentals, and joining a paid subscription to your content.
- Wallet (a stored balance on brandID) is available for tips, digital downloads/sell-media purchases, and billboard rentals.
- Joining a paid plan on your page currently sends the fan straight to Stripe checkout. Fans who already have an active PayPal-based subscription can still manage or cancel it through the PayPal customer portal (see below).
You do not need to set any of this up per fan. Whichever gateways you have connected under Payments & Payouts are simply offered as buttons at checkout.
Wallet is brandID’s own stored-balance payment method. Before a fan can pay with it for the first time in a session, they go through a quick, passwordless identity check: they enter their email, get a one-time verification code, and confirm it. This isn’t a full account sign-up, it just confirms the wallet belongs to them before any funds move.
If you have a nervous fan asking why they’re being asked for a code before paying, you can tell them this is normal and only used to confirm their wallet identity, not to create a password-protected account.
For tips and digital downloads (sell-media purchases), brandID shows a “recharge and retry” panel: the fan tops up the shortfall with a card or PayPal in a new tab, and the checkout automatically checks their balance every few seconds and completes the purchase from the Wallet as soon as the top-up clears. They’ll see a status message like “Waiting for your recharge to clear” while this happens.
Note: billboard rentals work a little differently. If a fan’s Wallet balance is insufficient for a billboard slot, they see a message telling them to recharge separately or simply pay with card or PayPal instead, there is no in-checkout recharge button for billboards specifically.
After a successful payment, your fan lands on a receipt-style success page. It typically shows:
- Status: Paid
- An Order ID
- Payment Method used (Card, PayPal, or Wallet)
- The date, and for store purchases the purchase amount
The page also tells them the receipt has been sent to their email. For digital products and paid content, they get a button to access what they bought right away. For a billboard rental, the confirmation instead explains that the ad is scheduled and waiting on your review.
Tip: if a fan says they never got an email receipt, ask them to check spam first, since receipts go out automatically the moment a payment succeeds.
A fan opens your tip block and sees your avatar, title, description, and a grid of preset dollar amounts they can tap, plus a “Custom amount” option if none of the presets fit. They can also add a short message (up to 300 characters) to go with the tip.
Once they pick an amount, the payment options (Credit cards, PayPal, Pay with Wallet) become active, they’re disabled until a valid amount is chosen. After paying, they land on a “Thank You for Your Tip!” page thanking them for their support.
The fan sees a preview of your content (a capped video/audio clip or a PDF icon), the price, and a “Buy Now” button. If they’ve already purchased before, there’s a “Have you already purchased this content?” link so they don’t have to pay twice.
- New buyers enter First Name, Last Name, and Email. Returning buyers only need to enter their Email.
- They verify that email with a one-time code sent to their inbox. Returning buyers who verify successfully get instant access without paying again.
- New buyers move to the summary and payment screen and pay with card, PayPal, or Wallet.
- On success, they see “Payment successful, thanks for your purchase, your content is ready to access” with a button to access it.
The fan sees the product gallery, title, description, an optional document preview if it’s a downloadable file, and the price (with a struck-through compare price if you’ve set one). They choose Credit Cards or PayPal.
Before checkout actually opens, a required “Who should we send the file to?” form pops up asking for Full Name and Email, plus any custom Notes or file-upload question you’ve added to that product. After paying, they land on a success card showing the product title and either your own custom thank-you message or the default “Thanks for your purchase, a receipt has been sent to your email.”
Billboard checkout has four steps for the fan:
- Select: choose Image or Video, and a position (Top, Middle, or Bottom of your page). Positions already taken show as “(Rented)” and can’t be selected.
- Upload: upload the ad creative and a destination link, which must start with
https://. - Payment: review the monthly price and pay with card, PayPal, or Wallet.
- Wallet sub-flow (if chosen): email verification, then payment.
After paying, the confirmation page tells the fan their ad is scheduled and that “the page owner will review it, once approved, your ad goes live (usually within 24 hours).” That review step is you, so remember to check your billboard requests so paying fans don’t wait longer than expected.
This is your own “Subscription” content block, where a fan pays you directly for exclusive access to your content. (This is completely separate from brandID’s own paid plans that you, the creator, subscribe to for premium platform features, see the Plans & Billing article for that.)
A fan who hits a paywalled piece of content, or clicks Subscribe on your plans page, sees your plan options with a Monthly/Annually toggle. If they’re not signed in yet, they verify their email with a one-time code first. Once verified (or if already signed in), they’re taken straight to Stripe checkout to complete the subscription. As soon as it succeeds, they get access to your exclusive content immediately.
If your paywall offers a one-time option too, fans see a choice between “Buy & download” for a single piece of content or subscribing for everything you’ve paywalled.
It depends on how they paid:
- PayPal subscribers have a dedicated portal where they can see their subscription details (email, status, plan, next billing date, amount), view billing history, and cancel. Canceling asks them to confirm (“Are you sure you want to cancel your subscription?”) before it takes effect, and they’ll see a “Subscription cancelled successfully!” confirmation.
- Stripe subscribers manage their subscription through Stripe’s own billing portal, which they reach from a link on your Plans page.
If a fan on the free tier of your plans asks how to “manage” it, they’ll simply see a message letting them know they’re on the free plan and can choose a paid tier to unlock more.
Every checkout flow (tips, store, sell-media, billboard, subscriptions) has its own “Payment Canceled” page. The wording is consistent: it lets them know the payment did not go through and invites them to try again or use a different payment method, with a button back to your page or dashboard.
If something goes wrong mid-payment rather than being canceled, they’ll typically see a short inline error message such as “An error occurred while processing your payment.” (card/generic) or “PayPal payment could not be completed.” (PayPal specifically). For billboard payments in particular, if the checkout could not confirm automatically, the message tells the fan: “if you were charged, contact support with your receipt.”
If a fan tells you they were charged but never got access or a receipt, ask them to reach out to brandID support with their Order ID or receipt so it can be traced.
There is no self-service refund button in any of the checkout flows fans see. If a fan believes they were charged in error, was double-charged, or wants to dispute a purchase, the documented path is to contact support directly with their receipt or Order ID rather than expecting an automatic refund inside brandID.
If a fan brings this kind of issue to you directly, the safest answer is to point them to brandID support with their receipt details so the payment can be looked into.
